Copyrights are protected in the Cayman Islands under the United Kingdom’s Copyright Act 1956 (the ʺ1956 Actʺ). Under the 1956 Act, copyrights subsist in original qualifying literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and architectural works, sound recording, pictorial, graphic and sculptured works and other qualifying intellectual works.

The author of the work is usually the first owner of copyright. Registration of copyright is neither required nor even possible in the Cayman Islands.
