A design is the appearance of a product: its shape, patterns and colours. At OHIM we register around 80 000 designs a year.

A registered Community design is valid in all countries of the European Union.

Design is an art and a science, it forms our homes and our workplace, and it is all around us, wherever we are. Design is the surface of the man-made environment.
