For the first time in the country, it is possible now to file for industrial design applications in Oman. The decision comes after waiting for two years from the issuance of the implementing regulations of the Industrial Design Law No. 67/2008.

The Patent Office in Oman is ready to receive industrial design applications after submitting the following filing requirements:

1. A legalized power of attorney.
2. Description of designs showing the elements of novelty.
3. Five – ten samples of the design to be protected.
4. A certificate of incorporation or an extract from the Registry (Legalization is not required).

For designs applications to be accepted they are to be novel and new and not disclosed to the public.

According to the Omani Design Law, the protection period is ten years, which can be renewed for two terms, five years each from the filing date.
