Iraqi-Kurdistan (Kurdistan Region of Iraq or Northern Iraq) is an autonomous region of Iraq, with “Erbil” as a capital. The region is officially governed by the Kurdistan Regional Government, as the new Iraqi constitution defines Kurdistan as a federal entity of Iraq, with 5 million of population and establishes Arabic and Kurdish as Iraq’s joint official languages.
The trademark registration in Iraqi Trademark Office, the Central Registry (ITMO) at Baghdad covers all Iraq.
Protection of trademarks in Iraqi-Kurdistan can be obtained as follows:
- In case client already has a valid registration at (ITMO), the requirements are the following:
- Power of attorney legalized up to Iraqi consulate at your end.
- Certified copy of the registration certificate from the Iraqi Central Office in Baghdad
- In this case the protection period is same as the registration certificate issued by (ITMO).
- In case client does not have any registration in Iraq; it is possible to file a new application at Northern Iraq, filing requirements are:
- Power of attorney legalized up to Iraqi consulate at your end.
- Declaration signed before notary public stating that the applicant is the legal owner of the trademark; this will be prepared by us.
- Photocopy of commercial register of the applicant.
- Photocopy of trademark registration at home or foreign country.
- The substantive examination is made in the Central Office in Baghdad.
