It has been announced by the Local IP Office in Angola (IAPI) that after publication of new application (being it a Trademark, Patent, Design… etc) there will be 60 days period for paying missing official fees (if any), requesting amendment on the application, filing oppositions by third parties, and late filing of pending documents.

It is also noted that, on the next step of the registration process if there was no opposition by third parties, applicants or their representatives should respond to all official letters within 30 days.

Failing to comply with any of the above, will be taken as there is no interest in the application, and therefore, the application will be considered as abandoned.

This decision has come as a result of the large amount of pending applications with missing documents or unpaid official fees.

Considering the difficulties for some clients to legalize the documents before the respective Angolan consulates in their home countries, we suggest that they legalize documents through the Hague Apostille and then request the Angolan Consulate to subscribe it.

Finally, we recommend our clients to provide us with all documents and payments before the end of the 60-days period in order to avoid revocation of new applications.
