Internet á Íslandi hf., ISNIC administers the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) .is in accordance with an agreement with IANA. The purpose of these rules (.is naming policy) is to ensure the security of domain delegation, the accuracy of the registration data and that the registration process is as efficient and as transparent as possible.
The registration of a domain gives temporary rights to the use of the domain according to ISNIC’s rules at any time but does not confer ownership of the domain.
The general rule for registrations of domains with ISNIC is “first come, first served”. If there are two or more applications for the same domain and all or both applicants meet the conditions established for registration, the first completed registration will be awarded.
