Patents - Filing Requirements


Patent Filing Requirements
  • Power of attorney legalised by Yemeni Consulate.
  • Deed of assignment document legalised by the Yemeni Consulate if the applicant is not the inventor.
  • Copies of specifications, claims, and drawings in English and Arabic languages.
  • Certified copy of the corresponding patent application or registration legalised by the Yemeni Consulate.
  • Certified copy of the certificate of incorporation or an extract from the commercial register with its Arabic or English translation.
  • Certified copy of the priority document if claimed.

Notes
  • Late filing of documents: 90 days from filing date without penalty.
  • Extension of time for late filing of documents: not allowed.

Annuity Requirements
  • No documents are required.

Patent Assignment
  • Power of attorney signed by the assignee, legalised by the Yemeni Consulate.
  • Deed of assignment document legalised by the Yemeni Consulate.

Notes
  • Late filing of documents: not allowed.
  • Extension of time for late filing of documents: not allowed.

Patent Merger

Notes
The Patent Law in Yemen has no provisions regarding patent merger. It is possible to file a patent assignment application instead.

Patent Recordal of Change
  • Power of attorney under the new name or address, legalised by the Yemeni Consulate.
  • Copy of the certificate of incorporation or extract from the commercial register reflecting the change of name or address.

Notes
  • Late filing of documents: not allowed.
  • Extension of time for late filing of documents: not allowed.

Patent License
  • Power of attorney signed by the licensee, legalised by the Yemeni Consulate.
  • License agreement document with Arabic or English translation, legalised by the Yemeni Consulate.
