It has been announced that the Japan Patent Office has granted extensions of time for all deadlines concerning patents, utility models, designs, and trademarks as a result of the sudden earthquake.
Applicants or their agents who are unable to attend to a deadline due to the earthquake are granted an extension of time until 31 August 2011.
Applicants or their agents who did not suffer directly from the earthquake, but they are unable to practice their business in order to attend to deadlines because of unexpected reasons due to the earthquake, are granted fourteen days from the date they resume business, provided that this extension shall not exceed 31 August 2011.
In both cases, any person seeking the above term extension should submit a document for the procedure undertaken explaining the reason why he/she was unable to follow the procedure of the deadline.
