DOHA – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department has issued a circular letter on 16 February 2026, announcing the official adoption of the 13th edition of the Nice Classification of Goods and Services for trademark registration purposes in Qatar.
As per the circular, the new classification will be effective as of the date of the circular (i.e., 16 February 2026), and all trademark applications submitted from this date onward must comply with the updated edition.
The Nice Classification, developed under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), provides a standardised international system for classifying goods and services for the purposes of trademark registration. The 13th edition introduces several updates and reclassifications that applicants and agents should review carefully to ensure proper alignment with the approved terminology.
The Ministry has urged all agents and applicants to ensure their future filings reflect the changes in the new edition to avoid delays or procedural objections.
