Cairo – ICANN, together with Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) announced the launch of a regional DNS Entrepreneurship Center (DNS-EC) in early November. This resource is considered to be the first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East. It will help develop businesses while delivering various advantages to Internet users by helping the Internet ecosystem in this region to evolve.
Several workshops were conducted in Egypt, Tunisia, UAE, and Qatar to prepare for this launch covering the DNS technical and operational issues with professional participants varying from registries, registrars, and hosting companies to government agencies and academic networks.
ICANN also announced that a new legal track would begin focusing on issues concerning domain names.
