The GCC countries are Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
The GCC General Assembly issued new regulations regarding the payment of annuities and the establishment of the Appellant Committee.
Payment of Annuities:
The new regulations stated that the annuities are to be paid within the first three months of each year (namely, January through March) regardless of the filing or priority date. A grace period of three months is allowed with payment of a late fine.
GCC Appellant Committee:
The established committee consists of twelve members from the six (GCC) member states (i.e. each country is represented by two members), among which the chairman will be elected.
As of 16 April 2001, this committee started looking into appeals filed by applicants against rejections/objections raised by the (GCC) Patent Office.
