We have the pleasure in announcing that the Iraqi Trademark Office (ITMO) commenced work on 14 June 2003 and the Patent Office on 17 June 2003.
One of the most important changes is that the boycott declaration is no longer required; a regular power of attorney (without boycott declaration) is now acceptable.
Furthermore, since all computer databases and files were burnt during and after the war on Iraq, there are currently no records of any trademark application or registration. Therefore, the Trademark Office is now requesting copies of applications as filed or copies of registration or renewal certificates in order to rebuild their database and create new records.
As our office handles most of the filings in Iraq, the Trademark Office has requested our assistance in providing them with copies of trademark files handled by us. Moreover, we are currently providing the (ITMO) with copies of the certificates sent to us by associates and clients even though they were not filed through us. Accordingly, should you need any assistance in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Further developments regarding new regulations will be circulated to you in due course.
