Libya – Announcement by Libyan Trademarks Office (LTMO) in Connection with Applications Filed Before 1981

We are pleased to announce that after comprehensive negotiations, the (LTMO) had decided, in relation to the applications/registrations filed before 1981, the following:

1. The LTMO had found that there are around 4000 applications/registrations that are valid.
2. Registrations that were filed before the close of the LTMO will remain in force and applications for renewal, recordal of assignment or change of name or address should be filed immediately.
3. Registrations due for renewal before 1981 and were not renewed are considered to be lapsed.
4. All pending applications at the date of closing the LTMO are still in force and can be completed and proceed to registration.
5. The Trade mark Office will not send any notice of renewal or completing the files as most of the previous applications were filed through unlicensed Agents.
6. Applications for renewal, assignment or change of name or address filed after 1981 are nullified without notification.

Filing requirements are:

1. Power of attorney.
2. A certificate of Incorporation or an extract of Commercial Register.

Both must be duly legalized up to the Libyan Consulate.

Renewal Requirements are:

1. Power of attorney.
2. A photocopy of registration certificate (not required by law or regulations, but to facilitate the procedures).
