Northern Iraq (Iraqi-Kurdistan or Kurdistan of Iraq) has Revised Filing Requirements
The Northern Iraq TMO (Kurdistan of Iraq) has recently changed its filing requirements in an attempt to avoid registering trademarks in the name of other than the original owners.
Accordingly to filing requirements are:
- In case the client does not have any registration in Iraq mainland; it is possible to obtain protection at Northern Iraq, in this case the requirements are:
- Power of attorney legalized up to Iraqi consulate abroad.
- Photocopy of trademark registration at home or foreign country along with Arabic translation legalised by Iraqi consulate abroad, we may provide you with translation before attending to its authentication.
- Photocopy of commercial register of the applicant.
- If application based on prior registration at the Iraqi mainland, then the followings must be submitted:
- Power of attorney legalized up to Iraqi consulate abroad.
- Certified copy of trademark registration certificate issued by the Iraqi Central Office in Baghdad.
In this case the protection period is according to the validity indicated at the said registration certificate.
