ABU DHABI – The Ministry of Economy’s Trademarks Department has issued Administrative Circular No. (1) of 2026, announcing the official adoption of the 13th edition of the Nice Classification of Goods and Services for trademark registration purposes in the United Arab Emirates.
As per the circular, the new classification will be effective as of 27 January 2026, and all trademark applications submitted from this date onward must comply with the updated edition.
The Nice Classification, developed under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), provides a standardised international system for classifying goods and services for the purposes of trademark registration. The 13th edition introduces several updates and reclassifications that applicants and agents should review carefully to ensure proper alignment with the approved terminology.
The Ministry has urged all agents and applicants to ensure their future filings reflect the changes in the new edition to avoid delays or procedural objections.
