DOHA – The Filing and Registration Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Qatar has issued a notice introducing temporary procedural measures for trademark-related transactions, due to current circumstances requiring remote working arrangements.
Under the temporary framework, trademark matters that are subject to statutory deadlines will be accepted after the resumption of in-person operations. The Ministry has confirmed that an additional grace period will be granted for the submission of such transactions, with the exact duration to be announced at a later stage.
The affected procedures include the submission of receipts relating to:
- Final trademark registration;
- Trademark renewals;
- Trademark publication, and
- Trademark opposition filings.
In the meantime, certain communications may continue to be handled electronically. Responses to trademark oppositions, as well as replies to office actions issued in trademark and patent applications, should be submitted via the official email address of the relevant department for further processing.
We will continue to monitor further announcements from the Ministry regarding the duration of the additional grace period and the resumption of normal operations.
