DUBAI – On 7 August 2016 the Corporate Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection Sector of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai has announced the launching of the Intellectual Property Gate as the first of its kind in the region which will be specialised in receiving infringement complaints online through the Department’s website.
The Department aims through this electronic gate to automate all transactions related to the Intellectual Property practice in the Emirates, starting from opening files of complaints all the way until issuance of a final decision. Said service will become available online on 1 September 2016.
This new tool is said to add value to trademark owners, law offices, and IP firms by allowing them to file a complaint online within a relatively short time rather than having to visit the Department’s office, also the ability to follow up on each case update and see its development.
The Department also aims to reduce the number of walk-in visitors to its premises by 80% by the year 2018; likewise, this system is expected to reduce the number of trademark owners and law firms visitors by 100%.
This electronic gate will develop the intellectual property practice, enhance the quality of service provided by the Department, protect traders’ rights, and boost trust between both government sector and private sector by reducing the time and effort when facilitating an online system.
